ANJALÉ PERRAULT

WELCOME TO MY NEWEST CHAPTER
Raised in the canyons of LA, plants and animals are the cornerstones of my memory. My jewelry designs and paintings are born from a wild childhood which I realized quite late in adolescence was very much outside the box. We lived in an 850 square foot cabin in a canyon and would drive half an hour out of the winding hills every day to school in the city, then back to our house which was set above a creek with no neighbors in sight. We took in stray dogs, had wild coyote and mountain lion sightings, with snakes that would hide out in our wood pile and under the porch. My whole life was steeped in wilderness, and these are now the images that I desire to create - the symbols that I use to tell stories about humanness, about femininity, about what it is to be alive and resilient in the world.
My fine jewelry collection is a celebration. It is full of transformation, optimism, and heart - because these are cornerstones of the human spirit as I know it. It is inspired by my grandmother Elizabeth, who was never without her red lipstick or bobbly earrings, whether playing the piano and singing, pushing me in her wheelbarrow as she fed the chickens, or laying side by side at her best friend Babette’s pool in Hollywood, all of us slathered in baby oil. She knew pleasure and beauty and joy. Through my heirloom jewelry I hope that her spark lives on.

At my solo exhibition in September 2024 there was a vinyl decal in the middle of the gallery floor that read “Permission Granted”. I had this phrase tattooed on my arm that night to immortalize the permission slip I had given myself to release judgment, to embody my skin, to embrace the pleasure of the present moment, and to live life to the fullest. I share my art and fine jewelry collections with you as offerings of love, support, solidarity, and a celebration of our shared humanness - of all that we have been and all that we can be. I am honored and humbled to be on this journey with you. Thank-you for joining me in this space.
