Wild 1

The first painting in the “Wild Things” series, this one holds a special place in my heart. It gets at that place that I’ve been searching for. The space where derivative is left behind. Painting from life - from an overflowing bouquet of flowers in the corner - creates a conversation with the foliage, the flowers, and the ferns that cannot be duplicated. Halfway through the painting is a failure and moments later it is resurrected. This is the path of the Wild 1. She is alive, she is breathless, she is willing to take the risk of heart. And the result is raw, as it should be.

This piece is part of the “Wild Things” series, a small collection of studies painted from life with focus on whimsy and otherworldly color palettes. This collection was created as a dreamscape, a window into the artist’s mind at the time of creation. The window closed, and the “Wild Things” moved on, as if they were no more than a passing dream.
